Terms of Reference
Good Neighbors International (GNI) is an international humanitarian and development organization with Headquarters based in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. It is in General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economics and Social Council (UNECOSOC). The Mission/Vision of GNI works to transform the world to a peaceful and secure world, where no one suffers from starvation; where no one falls victim to preventable diseases; where everyone is comforted and respected with no alienation for any reason.
Good Neighbors Tanzania (GNTZ) was established in 2005 and has offices in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Dodoma, Zanzibar, and Kigoma.
Position: Programme Assistant Officer
Objective
Implementation of Saemaul Zero Hunger Communities project activities through documentation of programmes and processes; implementation of project activities and community mobilization, facilitation and training of community based committees, and evaluating program/activity effectiveness.
Project Background
The Saemaul Zero Hunger Communities project is a World Food Programme pilot project implemented by Good Neighbors International and Chamwino District Council, and funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea. The come to its implementation in Chamwino District (Fufu, Suli and Chiboli villages), Dodoma region, Tanzania since early 2014.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for facilitation and training of repayment of livestocks from existing beneficiaries whom have received livestocks in the past.
- Responsible for preparation and documentation of all on site community training sessions concerning livestock farming and livestock banking, mainly in the targeted villages.
- Responsible for organizing capacity building sessions and training community members on livestock farming and livestock methodology suitable for the climate in Chamwino District, Dodoma Tanzania.
- Generate ideas and proposals on methods to bring about increased engagement of the community in project areas in improved livestock farming methods, and encourage community participation in GNTZ training sessions aimed at livestock farming in Chamwino District.
- Provide consultation and answer queries on livestock farming related issues from project target communities.
- Responsible for carrying out regular (weekly) site visits to the project area to carry out assessments of the community capacity and understanding of livestock farming methodologies, and to learn new means of tackling problems unique to the area concerning livestock farming.
- Prepare monthly reports on the status of livestock farming methods, and community understanding on the use of improved livestock farming techniques.
- Liaise with local, and national livestock farmers’ experts to organize appropriate and relevant livestock farming training and practical sessions for the benefit of the communities in Fufu, Suli and Chiboli villages.
- To increase awareness to the community members concerning livestock banking and livestock farming in all three villages (Fufu, Suli and Chiboli) in order to create a solid network with other livestock farming stakeholders.
- Help the community in realizing problems in their community concerning livestock farming, and find the solutions to those problems, by providing technical advice on improved livestock farming methods in the targeted areas.
- Impart knowledge to the communities on livestock banking including taking loans and repay the loans made.
Competencies and Qualification
- Degree/ Advance Diploma in Community Development, livestock farming, Sociology, or any related course
- Minimum of 2 years of full-time working experience in community development being stick in one organization.
- Work experience from NGO will be an added advantage.
- Experience in facilitating community development related activities in rural areas.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites frequently and sleeping at project sites occasionally.
- Interest in community and rural development.
- Well-organized, resourceful with good planning and problem-solving abilities
- Team player, flexible, quick-thinking and able to work well under pressure.
- Commitment to the Organization vision, mission, values and goals.
- Fluency in both English and Kiswahili in speaking and written for
- Excellent skills in use of Microsoft Excel and MS word
- Ability to work in an international and multi-national environment
- Religious and cultural tolerance
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
