The Tanzania Midwives Association (TAMA) is a non –governmental, autonomous, professional Association, registered on 8th October, 1992 (registration number SO 7714) with a membership of more than 4000, TAMA has established branches in all 26 Regions of the country. TAMA’s vision is that every child-bearing woman in Tanzania has access to a Midwife’s care for herself and her newborn. Our mission is to strengthen Midwives and the profession of Midwifery in Tanzania, by advocating for competent midwives as the most appropriate caregivers for childbearing women - supporting normal birth, and enhancing the health of women, newborns and families.
Position: Project Coordinator
The Project Coordinator will collaborate with government and non-governmental organizations to ensure overall programmatic and technical leadership and managerial oversight to carry out high quality interventions, and be responsible for achieving the planned results set out for the project and meeting Sanofi Espoir foundation grant terms.
This position will be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (with frequent field visit)
Program Overview
Tanzania Midwives Association (TAMA) in collaboration with Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) is implementing the 21 months project Entitled Improved Service delivery for Safe Motherhood project (ISDSM) - Strengthen Midwifery in Tanzania. The project aims at building the capacity of In-Service Midwives in two district councils in the country.With the ultimate goal to improve maternal and newborn health service delivery, supporting safe motherhood, and reduced maternal and infant morbidity and mortality in Tanzania in Mtwara and Morogoro district councils. The project is funded by Sanofi Espoir foundation.
TAMA is now seeking a skilled and highly motivated Project Coordinator to join its team.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Works in collaboration with international project delivery team to define the project’s guiding philosophy, project plan, goals, and objectives
• Conduct research, and outreach activities to support project goals
• Provides leadership and direction to local project staff (Project Assistant, and Finance Officer)
• Develop Project Implementation Plan (PIP) and Performance Measurement Framework (PMF) in collaboration with international project delivery team to support project plan, project structure, timelines for the project deliverables, and the metrics to define project success
• Develop a communication strategy to support the project from initiation through to completion, to include team members, stakeholders, and donors
• Engage appropriate inter-organizational stakeholders and team members in the process
• Direct and provide oversight for the work of the team members
• Oversee change processes, according to the project plan
• Generate project status reports, including progress on metrics, and identifying barriers and milestones achievement.
• Work with finance staff to support financial monitoring of project
• Develop sustainability plan, including funding opportunities, in conjunction with organizational leaders.
• Coordinate and support the Pre –Midwifery education training and outreach to the targeted hard to reach areas
• Advocate and promote midwifery profession at pre-service nurse-midwifery schools in project regions
• Support Monitoring and evaluation activities including data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Work with Project Finance officer to develop and track project budgets
• Produce and submit monthly updates and quarterly and annual project reports for TAMA Head Office
Requirements/qualifications
• Degree or Advanced Diploma in Midwifery with additional qualification in public health epidemiology
• Certification in Project Management required, or in progress.
• 5 years plus experience in a health related project management and change management role. Health policy experience is an asset.
• Demonstrated evidence of sound organizational, prioritization, and conflict management skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
• Demonstrates leadership in facilitation, collaboration and negotiation with multiple stakeholders and service providers.
• Understands how to align strategy and operational excellence.
• Understands planning approaches, principles and methodologies.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, teaching and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work well autonomously and in a team/group setting.
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Enthusiastic and creative problem solver.
• Experience in delivering midwifery services in developing country context.
• Ability to work in a professional environment and serve as a representative of TAMA and the project.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly, Excel, PowerPoint word processing and e-communication.
