Our client an NGO is inviting suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the position of Senior Program
Coordinator for its Ruaha-Katavi Landscape Program. This position reports to the Program Director.
Applicant Attributes:
- Fluency in Swahili and English;
- Higher degree (MSc or PhD) in biology, conservation science or related subject;
- A very high level of integrity, honesty and sense of responsibility;
- Ability to work under pressure, independently and as part of a team;
- Valid driving license, extensive 4WD experience with clean record.
Required experience:
- At least 10 years working experience in the Tanzanian wildlife sector working at levels of considerable responsibility;
- Program management and development;
- Staff management;
- Budget management and development;
- WMA management or other recognized CBNRM program (Kenya, Namibia, Zambia etc);
- Anti-poaching management (both government and community);
- Proven achievements in terms of partnership development and management;
- Publication record, including peer reviewed journals;
- Report writing, concept development, proposal development;
- Proven professional communication skills including presentations made at key meetings / conferences;
- General IT literacy and familiarity with all standard word processing packages.
Preferred experience:
- Working knowledge of Tanzanian wildlife legislation;
- INGO management experience;
- USAID grant management experience;
- Knowledge of law enforcement monitoring applications (e.g. SMART)
- Working experience with aviation applications;
- Working experience with conservation dogs;
- HUMINT experience;
- Experience in planning field based capacity building programs of different kinds;
- A working knowledge of QGIS and related software applications.
Outline Terms of Reference
Key support to program administration, including:
- Lead the development and supervision of staff work-plans;
- Lead the development and updating of annual and monthly work-plans;
- Lead the development and updating of budgets;
- Play a leading role in drafting reports to donors, collating input from staff as relevant;
- Lead and motivate all staff to consistently achieve the highest standards of performance and establish / support procedures that ensure program goals and targets are met;
- Work with the Head of Human Resources to ensure that all issues pertaining to staff
- administration are handled in a timely fashion and with due regard to Tanzanian law and WCS guidelines including oversight and preparation of staff and partner contracts
Liaison with key partners, including:
- Representing the program at key meetings with government, USAID, USAID partners and others;
- Maintaining regular contact with senior government counterparts (especially in TANAPA, TAWA and MNRT), at local and national levels;
- Guide liaison with other NGO’s, agencies and departments (including US Embassy, US Fish & Wildlife Service, UNDP, NTSCIU etc);
- Provide leadership in the establishment of strategic partnerships with stakeholders in order to ensure that program goals are met.
Other Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of various field activities as guided;
- Plan and deliver capacity building activities with various staff as needed;
- Work with the Program Director and Country Director to prepare funding proposals or other significant documents;
- Assist the Program Director and Country Director in any other requested way.
