WORK HOURS:   Full-time; 40 hours/week
SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR):  FSN- 5; (Step 1- TZS 15,441,115 through Step 13- 23,161,675 per annum)
Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): FP- 9**Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

The US Mission in Dar es Salaam is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of A/C Mechanic in the Facilities Maintenance Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITIONPerforms skilled HVAC related installation, troubleshooting and repair type maintenance work on air conditioning systems at the Embassy Compound and at 100 owned or leased residences by USG.
 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
50%This position is responsible to install, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain and repair all Heating/Ventilation and Air conditioning Equipment, air handling equipment, all humidity control equipment,  all associated pumping systems, piping systems and control systems, and all electric refrigeration systems at the embassy residences and the embassy compound. Maintains and repairs all systems such as Chillers, Air Handling Units, Air duct working systems, compressors, cooling units, condensers, valves, relays, switches, piping and Freon gas recovery and replacement systems,  additionally performs electrical work on the control systems and power supplies. Responds to embassy and or residences during emergencies and trouble reports and corrects problems encountered with minimal help and supervision. Identify all required parts, materials supplies,  inputs these into the procurement systems and estimates his/her projects or repairs completely. Plans and schedules work load in conjunction with Supervisor.
20%Duties include performing Monthly prevention maintenance inspections , examination and surveys of equipment and prepare reports on the condition of equipment with recommendations on repair or replacement work required.  Prepares monthly/weekly  inventory requests for parts and materials needed for preventative maintenance program.  Conducts the preventative maintenance program with the other A/C Mechanics.
20%Provides recommendations to Maintenance Supervisor and Facility Manager on equipment replacements, repair, and modifications to existing standard operating procedures.
10%Operate and keep track of the performance of all HVAC systems at the Embassy and at all  GOV Owned \long term and short term lease residences .Maintain records of all materials used in maintenance works for HVAC. Work with manufacturers’ manuals and technical drawings as necessary.
Performs job activities and duties in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards; conforms to established safety and health policies and procedures; properly utilizes appropriate personal protection equipment as required by the job activity; informs supervisor of all accidents, illnesses and injuries; promptly reports unsafe or hazardous conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education:Completion of Secondary School (form IV) is required.  Completion of technical vocational school or equivalent training is required.
Experience:Must have a minimum of five years’ work experience in air-conditioning. Must have experience with Building Automation System (BAS) hardware.  Must have experience with variable air volume systems. Must have demonstrated Chiller System experience, AHU (Air Handling Units) and Split Pack experience is required.
Language:Level III (good working knowledge) in English and Level IV (Fluent) (speaking, reading, and writing) in Kiswahili is required. (This will be tested)
Knowledge:Must have a thorough knowledge in practices and procedures in air-conditioning, specializing inducted systems, particularly variable air volume systems.  Must understand variable frequency motor drives are required.
Skills and Abilities:Valid driver’s license is required.

  1. Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply. Current OR employees with an Overall Summary rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
  1. Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Employment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
