The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), leads international efforts to alleviate hunger, eliminate poverty and achieve food and nutrition security for all. To ensure effective and timely delivery of project activities, the FAO Representation in the United Republic of Tanzania now seeks to recruit suitably qualified and experienced candidates for three positions, National IT consultant; Project operations Assistant and Consultant – Governance of land tenure. 

National IT Consultant- Vacancy Announcement NO: 9/2018  

General description of Tasks and objectives to be achieved: The Information Technology consultant will provide a large variety of standard support functions that contribute to the smooth and effective running of all Information and Communication Technology (ICT), within the FAO Tanzania country Office in Dar es salaam and sub-offices in Dodoma and Zanzibar.
 Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Administration), and technical direction of technical officers in FAO-SFS and FAO-RAF to undertake the following tasks:
Act as first point of support in ICT matters, receive, log and monitor requests as per established procedures, responding to ad-hoc queries, and retrieving data;
Provide 1st and 2nd level support to resolve IT-related issues pertaining to FAO standard equipment; escalate those issues that cannot be solved to the Regional IT Office support IT staff and to the technical team in the IT Division; monitor progress and ensure problem resolution;
Liaise with external technical support providers, following up on user problems until resolution is achieved;
Support the operation and use of the office network infrastructure (wired or wireless LANs, routers, firewalls), internet access and network services (file/print services, security, email backups) in accordance with corporate policies established by the IT Division;
Maintain an inventory of computers, peripherals, software and MISTS equipment; Monitor the Office’s Minimum Security Telecommunications Standards and MISTS equipment; ensure its appropriate maintenance, secure handling and storage, and track loaned equipment.
On behalf of FAO, take part in deliberations of the One UN ICT Working Group in Tanzania
Perform other duties as required. 

Competencies and desired experience Education: 

  • University degree 


Experience:

  • Five years of relevant experience in user support for Microsoft Windows and Office software in a wide area network environment 
  • Languages: Working knowledge (Level C) of English 
  • IT Skills: Experience with computer hardware repair and software configuration. Experience with providing IT support in a networked environment; Experience with MS Exchange and MS Outlook. Equipment procurement, and other related administrative functions. 

Technical Skills

  • Good knowledge of information technology resources and related standards. 
  • Duty station: Dar es salaam, Tanzania 
  • Duration: 40 days from 1st November to 31st December 2018, with a possibility of extension 

Remuneration: 

  • FAO applicable consultant’s rates. 

This position is for Nationals of United Republic of Tanzania.
