MATERIAL ENGINEER FOR ASPHALT & GRAVEL ROAD POSITION DESCRIPTION:
JOB DESCRPTION
1.Analyse product failure data and laboratory test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
2.Conduct or supervise tests on raw material or finished products in order to ensure their quality
3.Designing and direct the testing and/ or control of processing procedures
4.Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives.
5. Materials engineers design and create new materials and the processing technology to produce those materials. Job duties include analyzing materials and data, conducting tests, troubleshooting, monitoring performance, insuring quality control and creating documentation.
Materials engineers may be responsible for developing new methods of testing, training technicians and lab workers, maintaining inventories and ordering supplies. Engineers must also stay up-to-date on industry standards, government regulations and new developments in their field.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Required Education:
1. Bachelor's degree (entry-level); master's degree (advanced positions) in civil engineering.
2. Field experience and related computer software knowledge (preferred).
3. Some states require materials engineers to earn Professional Engineer licensure.
4. Candidates must have around 5 years experience as materials engineer on road construction and maintenance contracts.
5. Candidates should have experience of asphalt, gravel roads, sand filling and compaction and all other materials related to paved surfaces and road furniture.
