Short presentation of the organization
LIGHT FOR THE WORLD is an international disability and development organization whose vision is an inclusive society where no one is left behind. We strive for accessible eye care services, support inclusive education and empower persons with disabilities to participate equally in society.
LIGHT FOR THE WORLD-Belgium is a member of the international LIGHT FOR THE WORLD organisation. Recognizedas an NGO, we are committed to saving eyesight, improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in Africa and advocating for their rights.
LIGHT FOR THE WORLD-Belgiumwas founded in 1997 and is mainly active in theDR of Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania. The organization reinforces projects aiming at the prevention of blindness, provides health care and supports inclusive education for blind and visually impaired children.
Summary of the core activities in Tanzania
For the moment, LftW-Belgium is supporting 2 eye health care facilities at tertiary level. With regard to inclusive education, we support the children with a visual impairment in the regions of Dodoma and Morogoro.
In the coming years LftW plans to extend its support to 2 eye health care facilities at secondary level, to bring eye health closer to the people. An education program for children with a visual impairment will be established in this 2 respective regions.
Duties Program Coordinator
• Coordination of the activities of LftW in Tanzania:
o Implementation of the new 5-year program
o Develop monitoring tools for project management
o To lead the development of new interventions as part of LftW’ s Country Strategy for Tanzania, through proposal writing and negotiation of grant contracts
o To provide regular updates to the head office in Brussels
• Capacity building of the partners:
o Organizational capacity building and quality control
o Participation to strategic and operational planning
o Coaching and mentoring with regard to key subjects: finances, HRM and M&E
• Monitoring and reporting of the 5-year joint program and partner projects supported by LftW:
o Control and verification of expenditure and financial reports
o Verification of the narrative reports
o Collecting best practicesand bringing together lessons learned
o Monitoring and control of data and statistics.
o Planning and coordination of external evaluations
o Frequent travel to the supported regions and partners in the field
• Building up strategic alliances
o Lobbying, information exchange, collaborating with national and international stakeholders
o Representing LftW and the program in relevant national and other coordination forums
o Stimulating exchanges and networking between the different partners
• Supporting sensitization and fundraising activities of Light for the World
o Collecting human interest stories, photos and other relevant information
o Searching for and applying to local calls
Qualification and experience
• University degree in education, health care or hospital management, development studies, business administration or other relevant disciplines
• At least 5 years’ experience in project cycle management and capacity building
• Proven experience in of and commitment to participatory methodologies to development
• Budgeting and financial management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a variety of people of different backgrounds and education levels
• Strong training, coaching experience, skills and knowledge
• Excellent analytical and report writing skills
• Diplomatic and an effective communicator at all levels
• Attention to details, accuracy and timelines in executing tasks assigned
• Fluent in Kiswahili and English.
