PowerGen’s business model relies on selecting the best locations for micro-grids and connecting the best customers. A prerequisite to installing and operating micro-grids is gaining strong support from all tiers of government: national, regional, district, ward, and town. Therefore, building strong relationships in the District and Regional Executive offices is critical for PowerGen’s mission.
We are looking for a mature, well-spoken individual that has experience dealing with Government and Community relations. The lead for PowerGen’s local government relations will report to Vice President Grid Development and Grid Operations.

What You’ll Make Happen:
• Build strong relationships in the District and Regional Executive offices across Tanzania.
• Clearly articulate and sell PowerGen’s business model and the value of electrification through micro-grids to local government officials across Tanzania.
• Before PowerGen teams survey a region or district for potential micro-grid sites, you’ll work with government officials, at both the regional and district levels, to secure necessary surveying and installation permits.
• Lead review of land lease contract with District and Ward officials.
• Lead land lease contract negotiations with the Village Council for each site.
• Lead acquisition of environmental protection planning plans.
• Work closely with PowerGen’s national government relations, business development, structured finance, and commercial development teams to ensure that messaging is consistent across channels.
• Be PowerGen’s main contact person if local government officials have concerns about a potential or existing project.
• Regularly reach out to and visit local government officials in Regions and Districts where PowerGen has operating micro-grids.

You Already Have:
• University degree.
• 5+ years’ work experience.
• Experience working for or with local governments in Tanzania.
• Fluency in Kiswahili and English, both in written and oral communications.
• Passion for serving and engaging customers.
• Knowledge of the energy, clean tech or utility sectors.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with exceptional Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
• Practiced flexibility to lend a hand wherever needed.
• Enthusiasm in working for the field of renewable energy!
