INTRODUCTION
The Tanzania Chamber of Minerals and Energy (TCME) were established in 1994 and represents the private participants in the Tanzanian mineral sector. The membership, now close to 60, includes a broad spectrum of key players in the mining industry drawn from the largest international mining companies in the world, medium-scale miners, junior explorers and service providers, who have identified Tanzania as a worthwhile mining investment destination. These companies are carrying out exploration and mineral production activities. The Chamber is the voice of the industry and it plays a pivotal role within the sector to provide a recognized liaison point between mining industry investment community and the Government, and between the mining industry and the public. This pivotal role has evolved over time to be a partner with the Government in addressing challenges such as job creation, poverty alleviation and attracting investment.
THE POSITION
The TCME is in the process of strengthening its secretariat and wants to urgently fill the position of COMMUNICATION AND ADVOCACY MANAGER. The position will report to the Executive Secretary
The Job Aim
The primary responsibility is to brand the TCME as the voice of the mineral sector by finding ways to increase its visibility, improve its image, expand its membership and at the same time facilitate effective communication and dissemination of information among members, private sector organisations, civil societies, Government and the public.
THE CONTENT
Among other things, the task will include the following duties;
Develop the TCME media/communication strategy and subsequently develop a detailed work plan for implementing the strategy in the most effective, efficient and cost effective manner.
Deliver TCME core message to the public through outward communication strategies
Develop and maintain amicable relationship with media houses
Respond to requests for information and stories from the media
Improve TCME visibility and develop a positive image as an institution that is responsive to the needs of its members and constituents
Ensure that the TCME website is revamped and kept updated at all times
Ensure timely preparation of committees and council reports
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• A University Degree in Communication or Marketing or equivalent qualification
• Excellent communications skills in Swahili and English
• Ability to manage oneself
• Proven creative mind
• Ability and skills to conduct research
• Computer literacy is mandatory. Knowledge of
• IT skills will be and previous work experience in similar roles will be an added advantage.
