Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Tanzania is a non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to supporting the provision of high-quality, comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and treatment to HIV – exposed and infected children and adolescents in the Lake and Southern Highlands Zones of Tanzania through service delivery, training and research. Baylor Tanzania is part of the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS initiative (BIPAI) clinical centers of Excellence Network which is headquartered at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA
Through collaboration with the United State Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW), Baylor – Tanzania is looking for highly motivated, well-qualified individual to join its growing program team in the following vacant positions:
Post: 1; Medical Officer- Mbeya
Position Summary: The position holder will have responsibility for providing medical assessment, evaluation and care to patients in the Zonal Referral Hospital, the Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation —Tanzania Center of Excellence (COE) and in outreach facilities. This care includes the diagnosis and assessment of HIV-exposed and HIV-infected children and adults and the development of individualized care and treatment plans including the initiation and follow-up of children on antiretroviral (ARV) therapy
Duties and Responsibilities
• Attend to patients at the Baylor-Tanzania COE as well as COE patients in the pediatric wards of the Zonal Referral Hospital as applicable and outreach facilities
• Provide education and mentor medical trainees regarding pediatric and general HIV/AIDS care
• Provide technical assistance to health care providers in pediatric and general HIV/AIDS prevention, diagnosis, care, treatment and complications both within the COE as well as in outside facilities
• Provide complete and accurate documentation of medical information including history, physical examinations, laboratory findings, assessments and plans using paper charts and/or electronic medical records (EMR)
• Actively participate in CME activities and other meetings in all clinical and educational settings
• Undertake additional training as directed by the organization
• Develop and implement activities at COE and outreach facilities to enhance health of children infected with or affected by HIV
• Other specific tasks as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications / Skills
• Holder of a Doctorate of Medicine (MD),Bachelor of surgery (NBBS) from an accredited institution
• Registered by the Tanganyika Medical Council as a Medical Doctor having completed internship with at least one year working experience
• Proficiency in general pediatric and adult medical care
• Familiarity with general HIV care and treatment
• Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet computer programs

Pharmacy Technician
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assisting the pharmacist in the day-to-day operation of the pharmacy
• Measuring, mixing, packaging, labeling and delivering drugs
• Restocking medications and related supplies
• Identifying expired products for disposal, destruction, or return to supplier (MSD)
• Inputting prescriptions into the computer system
• Maintaining computerized lists of medications taken by patients
• Filling medication orders
• Account for all drugs by maintenance of stock cards
• Dealing with clients on a one-to-one basis, directing them to items or the Pharmacist for medication consultation
• Looking after home health-care products
• Pre-packaging medications (including unit dose packaging)
• Cleaning and sterilizing dispensing bottles and instruments
• General filing ensuring proper patient and drug records are kept at all times
• Monitors drug stock in order to prevent stock outs and loss through expiry
• Generate reports on drug usage for the COE as required from time to time and submits to the Pharmacist for drug inspection.
• Participate in drug stocktaking to ensure that the physical stock tallies with the stock as reported on the stock cards
• Prepare reports on pharmacy as requested.
• Provide medication information to patients/guardians as needed
• Any other relevant business as may be required from time to time.
Qualifications
• graduate of an approved Pharmacy Assistant/technician Program or equivalent
• Certification with the Medical Board or Pharmacists Board is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills both in English and Swahili.
• Knowledge of relevant computer skills required.
• Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality to follow specific instructions as there is no room for error.
• Well organized and have time management skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Possess strong interpersonal skills
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Customer service focused
