Job Title: Construction Estimator 
Location: Tanzania

Reporting To: Managing Director

Role Purpose
• To generate and manage all estimates and costs required for projects from the initial calculations to the final stage. Minimize the cost of the company project and enhance value for money while still achieving the required standards and quality.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Pricing competitive bid estimating 
  • Build estimates based on a practical understanding of design, constructability, logistics, sequencing and means and methods of a projects 
  • Understanding of market labour, and commodity conditions and impacts on construction costs. 
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analysing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades. 
  • Develop and prepare conceptual estimates with minimal subcontractor assistance using limited preliminary design documents/information. 
  • Prepare detailed critical path job schedules.
  • Interact with clients, architects, engineers and Local Jurisdictions to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc. 
  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, time requirements and related documents. 
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analysing information. 
  • Recommend ways to make a product more cost effective or profitable 
  • Evaluates offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements. 
  • Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price. 
  • Maintains cost keys and price masters by updating information. 
  • Prepare monthly project valuations and subcontract valuations along with material enquiries. 
  • Preparation of tenders and contract documents, budgets, bill of quantities for the project. 
  • Surveying of sites and preparation of quotes. 
  • Preparation of drawings. 
  • Produce architectural drawings for design and build projects 
  • Re-measurements of additional works and prepare variation work reports.


Academic qualifications and Work experience 
Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Building Economics Engineering. 
  • Registered with Architects and Quantity Surveyor Registration Board (AQRB). 
  • 5 and above years’ experience. 


Skills 

  • Extensive knowledge of industry practices, procedures, and market trends. 
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritizes his or her responsibilities accordingly depending on volume of work. 
  • A leader that assumes total responsibility for their work.
